Crafty Thoughts: Making Fimo Gemstones
There are a lot of tutorials for making Fimo and polymer clay gemstones online. It is a fun way to use up spare clay and make something rather unique at the same time. However many of these tutorials require Mica powder, leaf metal, UV resin, etc. This one by Lovicraft stood out as it can be done with several basic colours of polymer clay and a gloss varnish – and the earring and necklace fittings, of course!
All you need is a flat surface, a ruler, a rolling pin, a cutter or knife to make your shape, gloss varnish, and several colours of the clay you use which are similar enough to create the banding effect seen on the finished stones. Those tools are for best effect, but to be honest you can do it with less than that, for example, rolling the clay with your fingers and flattening it manually to get the long bands.
Happy crafting, and we hope this gives you some new ideas!
